Face Lift Case Study

Jeanette Davanzo underwent lower face lift and neck lift surgery through Rubicon Medical in March 2010. Here she talks about her experience.

I had always had it in mind that I would like to have cosmetic surgery when I got older. Since being a teenager I have been interested in fashion, hair, nails and beauty products. When I turned 51, I went for a consultation in Guildford which was both un-inspiring and very expensive, so I spent the money on doing up the rather tatty large house I had just bought. As I was approaching my 59th birthday I realised that no amount of care could overcome my 'always looking a bit tired', also the hereditary family jowls had started to make an appearance and no amount of cream was going to reverse that crepe bit on the neck. I felt I still looked younger than my age but it wasn't much to look forward to!

I had some spare money which was an unusual situation for us, as we have 7 (yes, seven) children, but at long last the youngest daughter was working and doing well. So we got on the internet, scanned the company sites and the blogs of what clients had to say about them. I had a couple of appointments with young consultants who appeared to not really want to commit themselves to properly advising me and would book you to discuss things with a surgeon, which I found a little frustrating as it was very time consuming and for me being self employed, resulted in a lot of lost income.

I found Rubicon on the internet and at last found in Janet, a lady with experience, knowledge and insight who understood what I was looking to achieve. Janet advised me which Surgeon would be best for my requirements. I was promptly booked for a consultation with the surgeon at the hospital I would be going to for the surgery. I felt very confident and booked the op for a couple of weeks later. On the 24th March 2010, I had my neck and lower face lifted and the tops of my eyes done. My stay at the hospital was very comfortable and the staff members were very professional and helpful.

One of the most commonly asked questions is "Was it painful?" I have to be honest; I had not believed the company web sites where they described the feeling as being 'discomfort' but if you read on, you will find they also describe temporary numbness around the areas operated on. At least that's what happened in my case and ordinary pain killers over the first few days did the trick. I stayed at home and rested for the first three days and then predictably wanted to get out and about. I didn't drive myself, but complete with glasses and cover-make up on the cheeks and under the eyes, I was definitely up for lunch and a little walk around!

My friends couldn't really understand why I wanted a facelift but they have been very impressed with the results and my husband loves it. My intention was not to look different - just a younger version of myself and I really got what I wanted and more. I don't know anyone personally who has had a facelift but quite a few of my friends and acquaintances are considering a 'little nip and tuck' now. I hope that others will find my photos informative. They were taken three months later by my husband and have not been retouched. I was always suspicious when the after photo had lots of make up and a fancy new hair style. People say you are as young as you feel, but I can tell you that you also feel as young as you look!
